The scientific bases for outline conditions, the situation with regard to demand, the implementation of regulations or benefits and the effects of socio-political tools are being examined as part of the sector-specific research carried out within the Swiss Federal Insurance Office (FSIO). Such background knowledge is important in relation to the form of the social security system. It is used by political bodies as a basis for socio-political decisions as well as by the FSIO for dealing with their daily tasks.

The site offers information on Social Security issues pursuant to the Agreement on the free movement of persons between Switzerland and the EC. It provides information on basic social security issues linked to the Agreement and extensive information on social insurance. It also offers advice geared to individual status and situation. It covers social security in the EU as well.

Occupational benefit plan supervision

The Office for the Supervision of Occupational Pensions is part of the Federal Social Insurance Office. It is the federal authority for the direct supervision of national and international institutions which provide occupational pension plans and related cover (2nd and 3a pillars).
