Issues related to families are handled within the domain Family, Generations and Society (FGS) of the Federal Social Insurance Office.

Principal tasks with issues concerning families

• Family allowances: the FGS domain oversees the implementation of the federal law on family allowances (FamZG) and of the federal law on family allowances for persons employed in the agricultural sector (FLG). 
• Impulse program for more places in day care nurseries: the FGS domain deals with applications submitted pursuant to the law on funding for non-family care settings for infants and small children.
• Subsidies: the FGS domain grants financial assistance to umbrella organisations, and signs service contracts with them.  
• International area: the FGS domain represents Switzerland in international bodies such as the Council of Europe during debates on family policy.
