Assistive devices

All insured persons are entitled to assistive devices that help them to perform self-care tasks, engage with the outside world, and aid their mobility. There is also another set of aids which the IV/AI provides for the specific purpose of helping the recipient to perform their job or carry out routine activities (e.g. household chores).

A complete list of assistive devices issued in accordance with the InvIA can be found in the appendix to an FDHA ordinance.

IV tariffs for assistive devices

The IV/AI has a range of instruments to reimburse the costs of an assistive device. Collective bargaining agreements are of central importance here.

Collective bargaining agreements are negotiated by the Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO). Cooperation between service providers and the FSIO should be transparent and ensure high quality service provision. To this end, the FSIO publishes guidelines on the renegotiation of IV/AI tariffs for assistive devices.

Application for invalidity insurance (IV) financing for a new product as an assistive device

Manufacturers and importers can ask the IV/AI to check whether their new or upgraded assistive devices meet the insurance scheme's reimbursement criteria. These requests must be submitted to the FSIO.
