Mathematics, Analyses and Statistics Domain

The Mathematics, Analyses and Statistics Domain (MAS) draws up decision-making bases for the management, supervision and further development of social security. To this end, it compiles statistical data and calculation bases, develops forecasting models and scenarios and launches and supports research and evaluation projects. MAS also provides the necessary mathematical and statistical bases for reform projects and calculates the financial implications of the proposals.

Mathematics

  • Handles mathematical and financial issues
  • Develops and implements mathematical and forecasting models
  • Calculates the financial impact of constitutional, legislative and regulatory amendments
  • Prepares annual budgets and projections for the OAI/II/EO(Loss of earnings compensation)/SB/FA schemes
  • Draws up and monitors financial plans for the OAI/II/Supplementary Benefits/Transition Benefits and Family Allowances schemes in relation to the federal budget
  • Develops the actuarial bases with regard to the administration of justice, execution and supervision of the 1st and 2nd pillars

Research and Evaluation

  • Commissions third parties to carry out research and evaluation projects and manages them together with the Domains responsible for the content
  • Generates the scientific bases for the social security system
  • Evaluates the general frameworks, performance, implementation and effects of social policy instruments
  • Analyses the economic and social impact of legislation
  • Publishes findings in the "Beiträge zur Sozialen Sicherheit" series and in the FSIO journal "Soziale Sicherheit"
  • Is involved in responding to parliamentary procedural requests

Basic data and analyses

  • Provides the statistical bases for the AHV/IV/EO/EL/ÜL/FZ social insurance schemes and OASI revenues, and analyses these data. 
  • Performs and publishes statistical and quantitative analyses of social security benefit claimants, backed up with contextual population and labour market data.
  • Compiles statistics to assist government departments with revising legislation as well as with implementing and upgrading the Swiss social insurance system.
  • Publishes OASI, IV, EO, EL, ÜL and FZ statistics and the 'Swiss Social Insurance Statistics' compendium as part of its public information mandate.
  • Prepares the total social insurance accounts (TSIA).Always performs its work in accordance with 'Swiss Charter of Official Statistics' principles.
