Swiss National Programmes for the Improvement of Violence Prevention and the Protection of Children and Young Persons in the Media

Violent behaviour of and among young persons, use of violent media and media contents endangering children and young persons are problem areas, which the Swiss Federal Government (Schweizer Bundesregierung - Bundesrat) has addressed for a number of years with the Federal Social Insurance Office and its Child and Youth Issues Section acting as the lead agency.

On 11 June 2010, the Swiss Government adopted two nationwide Swiss programmes to improve the prevention against youth violence and the protection of children and young persons in the media. The proposed actions will be implemented between 2011 and 2015. For these programmes, the Swiss Confederation provides funding amounting to SFr 8.65m. At the same time, the Bundesrat adopted an ordinance on the protection of children and young persons.
